This month, we had the pleasure of visiting Cambridge-based artist and designer-maker, David Stonehouse, at Kiln Cambridge to discuss his practice and his captivating new collection inspired by David Parr House.
David’s handmade brooches, the first pieces in an ongoing series, are now available to purchase in our shop and online. These exquisite creations are a testament to the inspiration found within the vibrant walls of our home.
“David Parr House is a treasure trove of inspiration,” David enthuses. “Every corner is a burst of colour, pattern, and texture. It’s a place where I continually discover new details to admire and reflect upon.”
David’s collection pays homage to the house's unique charm, aiming to evoke memories and connections. By choosing the brooch as his medium, he creates a personal and wearable link between the house and its visitors. His work beautifully combines contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship, reflecting his passion for both ceramics and jewellery.
Based at Kiln Cambridge, an open-access pottery studio where he also contributes to the management team, David is surrounded by creativity and collaboration. His work embodies a philosophy of simplicity, refinement, and meaning, with a strong emphasis on the inherent beauty of materials.
