Meet Jane Sedgwick: The Artisan Behind Bold and Playful Wooden Jewellery
Share
Jane’s jewellery is a testament to her love for geometric forms, repetition, and vibrant colour. Drawing inspiration from classic educational toys and nautical imagery, her designs are both modern and timeless. She uses traditional woodworking techniques, ensuring that each piece is meticulously crafted. What makes her work even more special is her commitment to sustainability—Jane manages a small woodland that provides a renewable supply of sycamore for her creations.
At the David Parr House Shop, we take pride in showcasing the work of talented artisans whose creations embody craftsmanship and creativity. One such maker is Jane Sedgwick, whose bold and playful wooden jewellery is individually turned and hand-painted in her North Norfolk studio. We are thrilled to offer Jane’s unique pieces in our shop, where they perfectly complement the artistic legacy of David Parr House.
Jane’s connection to the David Parr House is rooted in her fascination with artist homes. “I am fascinated by other people’s homes and particularly love to see inside artist’s own houses,” she shares. When Jane first heard about the David Parr House, she was eager to visit and explore its richly decorated interior.
The modest exterior of the terraced house gave way to a stunning revelation inside, with every inch of the space adorned with intricate patterns and vibrant colours. Jane describes her visit as an immersive experience that left her “speechless.”
The level of time, care, and craftsmanship that David Parr invested in his home deeply resonated with Jane, especially the story of his granddaughter Elsie, who preserved her grandfather’s work while also raising her family in the house. Jane found charm in the juxtaposition of Elsie’s more modern possessions against the formal Arts and Crafts interior, noting how the little details brought the house to life.
“There is so much to take in,” Jane reflects. “You could visit time and again and still spot something you hadn’t noticed before.” This deep appreciation for the house and its history makes Jane especially delighted to have her brooches stocked in our shop. She looks forward to visiting the house again soon.
Each piece of Jane’s jewellery is a celebration of craftsmanship, much like the detailed work found within David Parr House. Her brooches, available in our shop, are more than just accessories; they are works of art that tell a story of tradition, creativity, and sustainability.
